2008 National Yoga Conference
"Being Yoga"
at the New York City Sheraton
1) ESSENTIAL POSES FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH
Saturday, October 11. 2008
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
This course offers a sequence of yoga poses that are fined
tuned to the needs of women. We will learn to practice in
a way that honors the many cyclic hormonal changes that women experience
throughout their lives.
Issues that will be covered include how to practice during the menstrual
cycle, menstrual problems, P.M.S., and the changes brought about
by menopause.
2) BACK
BEND BASICS
Sunday, October 12. 2008
7:00 am - 8:30am
Back bends
open the chest and heart. They dispel negativity, alleviate anxiety
and lift the spirit. When we practice them early in the morning,
we can face the day with joy and confidence. In this course, we
will work methodically, first preparing the strong work to come
and then learning the basic principles of alignment that are needed
to achieve a safe, secure and dynamic practice.
*Please bring
three blankets, one block, one belt and a yoga mat for each of these
courses.

The
Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York presents a free four part workshop,
Yoga for Breast Health, for breast cancer patients and survivors
Breast
cancer surgery usually results in decreased mobility and numbness
in the arm, shoulder and chest and can be accompanied by an overall
loss of balance, energy and strength. This need not be permanent.
This four part series is specifically tailored to the physical,
psychological and emotional needs of breast cancer survivors including
post mastectomy and post lumpectomy patients, and those with lymphedema.
Sat,
4th Oct. Session I: A cooling restorative sequence. 10.15 –
12.15 pm.
Bobby Clennell. We offer a restorative sequence
of asana and pranayama, which cools, calms and restores the system
and we learn what it is to be truly quiet. Although this session
is open to all breast cancer survivors, it is particularly designed
for those who are currently receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer.
Sun, 5th Oct. Session II: The foundation stones of a healing practice.
2 - 4 pm.
Bobby Clennell. We begin the process of recovery
and practice asana to regain wellbeing, mobility, strength and energy.
This class will provide safe, supported yoga postures to get us
on the road to health and healing.
Sat, 11th Oct. Session III: The Recovery years. 10.15 –
12.15 pm.
Brooke Myers. Continuing to address the issues
of pain, stiffness and fatigue associated with treatment for breast
cancer.
Sun, 12th Oct. Session IV: The Recovery Years. 2 - 4 pm.
Brooke Myers. Boosting the immune system and one’s
general health can go a long way to boosting the health of the breasts
and alleviating anxiety. This session is designed to do just that:
promote a state of ease and freedom in the body, and peace in the
mind.
There is no fee for these workshops, but please call the Institute
and register in advance if you would like to attend.
Session II, III, and IV: allow two full two months to elapse
following surgery before attending these classes.
